2012 Swap Meet
The plans for the swap meet on Feb. the 19th will be finalized also at the meetings. Linda Benjamin has been doing a great job of organizing this large fund raising event and will need lots of volunteer help. She had knee surgery on the 3rd of Jan., but will be at the meeting. Keep her in your thoughts for a good recovery.

Hi everyone,
Jake Bowman, the new manager of the Western & English facilities at the University of Findlay informed me that the dates of the 19th and 20th of May 2012, our normal dates for the Quad-A-Rama show, had not been put on their calendar. Dan Web had called me in mid-August to ask what dates we wanted because the reigning association could have their show either on the 12th or 13th or on the dates we needed. I told him that we always have our show on the week ending after Mother's day and gave him the dates.

This call came at a time when I was spending all my time with Jan. I heard in late September that Dan had resigned and that Jake had taken over. I left a message for Jake that I would be in to pick up the contracts for the use of the facilities on the Wed. after our meeting in Oct. I was going to have a meeting with Tom Harmon and Linda Benjamin on that day as well. Jake called on that Monday and informed me that the dates I requested where not on the calendar and they had been given to the ORHA.

I called the ORHA president Al Newman, told him what the situation was and his board said they couldn't change the dates. I called Dan Webb and he said it was an over site and suggested I call Al again and also Steve Brown at the University of Findlay to see what could be done. That went nowhere.

Since then I have contacted and looked at the WB Ranch & Arena in Swanton, Ohio which has a facility that has the dates available. It has two indoor arenas similar to University of Findlay’s, 160 stalls and a large parking area with 85 camper hookups. The stalls are not as nice but are close to the arenas. The main arena has excellent footing for contesting classes and the smaller make up arena is as large as University of Findlay’s.

The cost for use of the facilities for the weekend is considerable less and the stalls are $15 less. No additional charge for coming in early or staying late. Roberts Arena in Wilmington is also available at slightly less cost. So, the best option is the WB Ranch & Arena. ( Website: turning3.com )

At the World Show, I talked to Sue Scobe, the Petersons, the Langfords, Sandy Martin and Kenny Greeves who bring and show lots to contest horses. They ALL said they could make it to the May 19th and 20th date but could not make it to the 2nd weekend in June which the University of Findlay offered. This group is a big part of our show.

I also looked at the English facility, but they don't have enough camper space so that is not an option. If any of you have any other ideas let me know.

Jake also informed me that the 2012 is the last year GLAPhC can have the swap meet at the western farm. This has not been the best fall for me and has been very stressful.

We will discuss all of this and hopefully come up with a solution at our next meeting on December 4th . 2 PM at Linda Benjamin's.

Have a good day.

If you are one of those folks that have lots of equine “stuff” you need to sell, we can also help you!! By simply clicking on the reservation form, you can send in your request for either a non-commercial booth which is $25.00 or a commercial booth at $55.00.
